Puppy Prep & Plan

It started with a litter.

At some point a boy dog and a girl dog had some "private time". This ended culminated in about six pups popping out around 2 months later.

8 weeks later you turned up with a little collar and lead and excitement errupting from the pores of your skin!

So you have a new puppy! This little guy goes through a few days of turmoil because for those 8 weeks they'd gotten used to milk on tap, weetabix and a familiar smell and sound of mum and her owners.

Difficult sleeps and toileting everywhere, chewing cables and your Jimmy Choo's, have you arguing about who's idea it had been to get a dog?!

Eventually things settle, the odd accident and chewing something, but overall great cuddles and barks when someone is near the house. Unfortunately, Fido goes a bit bonkers at visitors coming round, barges the kids off their feet and pulls like he's a sled dog whilst you're out on walks.

Sound familiar?

The first service we offer is our puppy preparation and settling in to life with you. Designed to keep all of these scenarios to a bearable level and to intoduce rules and techniques that will last you the lifetime of your dog and set them and you up for a bond all your friends will be jealous of.

Each family is different, but the plans are pretty much along the same lines.

Approximately 8 weeks, starting a few days before the pup is collected, and then into the first experiences, including walks, vets and socialising.

Basic Obedience

Basic obedience comprises of the big 5 commands, Sit, Down, Wait or Stay, Recall (Come), Loose lead walking (heel).

The time it will take for you to have a happy confident dog mastering the Big 5 depends. Age, breed, background, household dynamic and bond are all factors in the amount of sessions that you will both require.

We train with kindness, confidence and the WIIFM principle. What's In It For Me or the WIIFM principle, various from dog to dog, some are food orientated, some a tennis ball, some just love this fuss. Either way if appropriate we will use a clicker, or a marker word, such as YES.

Its key to note that dog training is very much enhanced by a loving bond with your dog. This comes about through kindness, leadership strong and definite rules. But the biggest and most important thing that you need is TIME. The more you spend time with your dog having fun, training, enjoying walks and family time, the stronger your bond will be and this will reflect in your training and inparticular Recall.
